- European Museum of the Year Award Special Commendation 1998, awarded by the European Museums Forum.

- Goldstar-Award for the Website given by the International Council of Museums.
2000
- Rheinland Award 2000 for innovative tourism management in the Rhineland.
2002
- The Neanderthal Museum was awarded by a national and international committee for the special exhibition "Neuere deutsche Architektur - Eine reflexive Moderne" (current architecture in Germany - a reflexive modern way).
2003
- Special award of the Neanderthal Museum by the Foundation "Lebendige Stadt" for the best concept of a museum full of life as well as a modern way of presenting cultural affairs.
2006
- Selected place in the "country of ideas", awarded by the initiative "Deutschland - Land der Ideen" (Germany - country of ideas).
