The Neanderthal Museum has set standards. This is not only exemplified by satisfied visitors, but also by multiple awards which the museum has received so far for its exhibition and architecture.

• Architekturpreis Beton 1997, awarded by the Bundesverband der Deutschen Zementindustrie (Federal Association of the German Cement Industry).

• "Auszeichnung guter Bauten", BDA-Award Düsseldorf 1997, awarded by the Bund Deutscher Architekten (Federation of German Architects).

1998

• European Museum of the Year Award Special Commendation 1998, awarded by the European Museums Forum.

• "Architektur Preis Nordrhein-Westfalen 1998", awarded by the Bund Deutscher Architekten (Federation of German Architects).

1999

• Goldstar-Award for the Website given by the International Council of Museums.

2000

• Rheinland Award 2000 for innovative tourism management in the Rhineland.

2002

• The Neanderthal Museum was awarded by a national and international committee for the special exhibition "Neuere deutsche Architektur - Eine reflexive Moderne" (current architecture in Germany - a reflexive modern way).

2003

• Special award of the Neanderthal Museum by the Foundation "Lebendige Stadt" for the best concept of a museum full of life as well as a modern way of presenting cultural affairs.

2006

• Selected place in the "country of ideas", awarded by the initiative "Deutschland - Land der Ideen" (Germany - country of ideas).
