The Neanderthal Museum would not work without its promoters. In 1996, the construction of the museum was financed by the NRW-Stiftung Natur, Heimat and Kultur, who still is the owner of the museum building.

The arrangement of the museum was financed by the RWE AG. The city of Mettmann provided the estate, while the district of Mettmann committed itself to cover the operating cost deficit.

In the meantime, new benefactors joined to maintain the “Neanderthal legacy”: The Kreissparkasse Düsseldorf, the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR), as well as the cities of Erkrath and Mettmann. Additional sponsorships are welcome.
