The Neanderthal Museum – a house of the NRW-Foundation

At the request of the Neanderthal Museum Association, the NRW-Foundation (Nordrhein-Westfalen- Stiftung Naturschutz, Heimat- und Kulturpflege) provided means of around 6 Million Euros to build the Neanderthal Museum. The NRW-Foundation is the owner of the building under private law.

During the last years, the NRW-Foundation has been providing additional support to arrange the Discovery Site in the immediate vicinity of the museum, to transform the old museum building into a Stone Age Workshop, and to update the permanent exhibition after the first ten years. The NRW-Foundation draws its financial means from the so-called scratch ticket lottery as well as from donations and membership-fees.
