RWE
RWE is one of Europe’s biggest power producers. In 1898 RWE was founded to supply the city of Essen with energy. RWE developed from a local provider to one of the leading European partners for energy and energy related services. As a successful company we regard it as our duty to engage in the arts, culture, sports and social areas. The social value of our sponsored projects is of uttermost importance to us.
Against this background, the Neanderthal Museum is the ideal partner to us: it not just stimulates education and culture but also has a clear reference to the region. In 1996 RWE provided 2.8 million Euros to arrange the new Neanderthal Museum. In 2006, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the famous fossils, RWE granted further 250.000 Euros.
