Cooking

Neanderthals did not use pots for cooking. They threw hot stones into water, which was trapped in a depression lined with leather. After a while, the water starts boiling. Above the open fire they could use containers made of leather, maw or birchbark.

To store the food, meat was smoked, dried or buried in the ground. In our workshops “Following Hunters and Gatherers” or “baker and farmer” we’ll go on expeditions: get to know different animals and their tracks, eatable plants, and learn a lot about food and drinks during the Stone Age and our own diet today.
