Food in the Stone Age

Neanderthals hunted reindeer, wild horses or wisents and collected plants, berries and roots. Coast dwellers additionally ate fish or shellfish. Therefore, everybody had to know their environment very well. One had to know the tracks of all kinds of animals and how to distinguish between poisonous and edible plants.

As hunters and gatherers, the Neanderthals followed the large herds. But they only hunted as much as they needed to survive.
