Secondary School

Recommendations for secondary school groups grade 5 and 6

  • Guided tour through the Permanent Exhibition - The Permanent Exhibition of the Neanderthal Museum can be used in various ways to support the topic “Stone Age” in History for the grades 5 and 6, as an introduction to the topic or as a wrap-up. The topic human evolution for the subject Biology can enhanced be with a guided tour as well.
  • Stone Age Workshop - Making stone-age techniques come to life. This is the cornerstone of the workshops in the Stone Age Workshop. After an introduction into the topic in our “cave room” it is time to work: Every participant creates a stone-age object with his/her own hands and can take it home. (Exception: Shooting with stone-age hunting weapons).

Recommendations for secondary school groups grade 8 to 10.

  • Guided tour through the Permanent Exhibition – For the grades 8 to 10 the museum offers an ideal introduction into the topics human evolution and mankind and the environment in the subject Biology.
  • Guided tour at the Discovery Site – A guided tour from the museum to the Discovery Site and around the site is especially versatile. It allows insights into the industrial history of the region, the varying climate of the Ice Age and describes the exciting history of archaeology.
  • Presentation of stone-age techniques - Experience in our presentation how our ancestors created razor-sharp stone blades, worked jewellery from bones and antlers, how they used a spear thrower and made fire.
  • Guided tour around the Ice Age Game Reserve – With a guided tour the aspects of environmental protection and wildlife biology are experienced “live” and can be discussed with the pupils.
